Townsville Hospital and Health Service, is the public healthcare provider for the government areas of Townsville, Burdekin, Charters Towers, Flinders, Richmond, Hinchinbrook and Palm Island. We operate 21 facilities from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

Townsville University Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, provides specialist referral services for 700,000 people living in the region.

The role requires the applicant to undertake a broad range of anaesthetic and perioperative practice and there are opportunities to develop special clinical interests across a wide range of specialties.

About the opportunity:

Position: Staff Specialist Anaesthetics (Generalist) 

Vacancy: Permanent full-time (Multiple positions available)

Location: Anaesthetic Department, Surgical Services Group, Townsville Hospital and Health Service

The Specialist Anaesthetist will lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standards of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the Townsville HHS and Queensland Health policies in a hospital, community and outreach setting. Research is encouraged and the supervision and training of medical students up to provisional fellows and upskilling specialists is an essential part of the role.

Enjoy a generous remuneration package valued up to $496,915 p.a., including:

  • Salary range: $210,332 to $266,677 p.a. (L18 – L27)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Attraction and retention incentive allowance (50% base salary)
  • Motor vehicle allowance between $21,000 and $25,500 p.a.
  • Professional development allowance of $21,500 p.a. + 3.6 weeks p.a. leave
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.
  • All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee. All appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the Clinical Services Capability Framework for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken.
  • A class C motor vehicle licence.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work at other facilities within the THHS.
  • Candidates who will be obtaining fellowship in the near future are encouraged to apply. Appointment will be at a lower classification level until minimum requirements for the Staff Specialist classification are obtained.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role.
